You are here: Summer > Activities > Radmer copper show mine

A family favourite with the smallest tunnel train in Austria Copper was mined in the Radmertal valley even 3,000 years ago. The mine was shut down in 1855 and forgotten. From 1996 on, the so-called ‘Paradeisstollen’ tunnels were revitalised by a handful of volunteers from Radmer complete with the tracks, shafts and mines. They are now open to the public. Today, visitors can learn at firsthand about the strenuous work and the living conditions of the former copper miners as part of small group tours. Even after such a long time, the traces of human labour are still evident in the show mines.

The journey underground begins with ‘Austria’s smallest tunnel train’ – a visitor train which is truly unique in the world and a real hit with kids, offering adventure, time travel and a lasting experience, all at the same time! There is also plenty of opportunity to ask questions during the tour. In addition, there is a showroom housing plenty of valuable exhibits by the mine entrance.
